Plagiarism

If paraphrases of a text or the adoption of an argument without reference to the source are used in written papers or abstracts, this is considered plagiarism. Both the complete adoption of a text or adoption of individual sections of text as well as the use of arguments or facts of others without reference to sources are prohibited and will be punished.

If a written paper or presentation is found to be plagiarized, it will be given a grade of 1. The lecturers are obliged to report the person in question to the Head of Institute and the Study Coordination. The Head of Institute decides whether the case should be reported to the Dean's Office in accordance with Article 4 paragraph 3 of the "Guidelines of the University Board of Directors concerning the procedure for dealing with plagiarism" of August 28, 2007 and July 3, 2012. In serious cases, expulsion from the University of Bern must be expected.
